- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2021Uncertain circumstances can disrupt all areas of our lives and that has certainly been true during the pandemic. Of many phrases that have come into vogue in the midst of the chaos of COVID-19 is "essential worker". The change of people either being out of work or having to work from home for extended periods of time can cause us to question our worth since part of our identity is tied to work. Mr. Sooy contends in this 30-day devotional that we are all essential workers, our work is a way we can glorify God and bless others, and that our work is an opportunity to bless others. While this book uses the pandemic as the focus of uncertain times, the contents of the book are true in any uncertain circumstances. Each day of the devotional focuses on a different subject matter that explores the concept, provides a Bible verse to underscore the point(s), and shows how it applies to our lives today. There is also a section that asks questions that readers are able to write their impressions/reflections about how we personally can apply about the concept or how it can be encouraging for us. What I appreciated is that the book refocuses us on who God thinks we, that our worth is defined by Him and not our vocation, and that we can lead/encourage others around us regardless of our job or title.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2021Brian Sooy grasps what it means to be essential. Our work is not who we are, but it is one of the biggest we glorify God and achieve purpose in this world. Each chapter is an easy read, but it still sticks with you throughout the workday. Most importantly - it is rooted in scripture. This sits on my desk at work and I just continue to go through it because it gives us a reminder that we all need.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2021This is a 1 month devotional that you can repeat several times over. Brian has done an excellent job of tying Scripture to challenging real life questions and reflections.
Would strongly encourage this devotional if you have ever asked the question if your work has a greater purpose.
